ROSANNA GIOIELLI JEWELLERY CREATIONS

ARTIST FEATURE
*****************************************
ROSANNA GIOIELLI
*****************************************

I always have my eyes open for wire artists that have
that extra flair! A certain originality and energy that
pours out of a design and as soon as I spotted
Rosanna's work, I saw (and felt) this in her jewellery
designs!  Rosanna seems to have the ability and
talent to make wire dance in front of your eyes ...
read our recent interview ... and you can dance with her!

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOUR BACKGROUND?
I have an English mother and an Italian father, therefore, even
though I was born in the UK forty-two years ago, I was just
a few weeks old when my parents and I moved to Italy. I lived
there until fifteen years ago, when I decided to return to the
UK with my daughter.

DO YOU HAVE ANY ART OR JEWELLERY TRAINING?
I studied jewellery making and textiles at college in Italy and whilst
in the UK, I followed a course in silversmithing that inspired me to
work with gemstones. Consequently, about 10 years ago I taught myself
how to make jewellery and explored different techniques and styles.
I fell in love with wirework and began specialising in creating bridal pieces,
which led me to open my very own bespoke bridal boutique.
Apart from this, I have studied interior design, graphic design, fine
art and photography.

WHERE IS YOUR STUDIO?
I consider myself very lucky because jewellery making is not only
my hobby but also my full-time job as I am an in-house Designer
for JEWELLERY MAKER TV.  At home, I have set up a studio
in my spare room to create my own 'RosannaGioielli' jewellery
creations, however, I always seem to end up working in my lounge,
despite my partner's protests!!

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR DESIGNS?
I have a keen interest in fashion and the great designers and use them
to inspire my work.  For me it is very important to know what is up
and current in the fashion world.

When creating free-style pieces, I tend to follow the curves, twirls
and swirls found in nature around me.  A walk in the park ...
always triggers new ideas!

TELL US ABOUT YOUR WORK WITH JEWELLERY MAKER TV?
I started working at Jewellery Maker a year ago.  I am an in-house
Designer, also known as 'Bundle Designer'.  My job is to create pieces
to inspire others when they purchase jewellery making materials
during the show.  I can't choose the bundles I work with, but I have
full freedom on what I want to make with them.  These creations then
get shown the day after, during the live TV show and also get
photographed and published on JM's WEBSITE and FACEBOOK
page.  I also design and make jewellery for JM advertising needs ...
I love inspiring others!

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE DESIGN?
I am passionate about my 'Mask' designs.  Maybe because
every one of us wears a mask at times and I decided to make
mine visible to all!  I like to use my own technique to wave
and mix wire colours, as well as using different medias and
materials to achieve what I have in mind.

WHERE DO YOU SELL AND PROMOTE YOUR WORK?
I am currently setting up an Etsy shop that is going to be linked
to my WEBSITE.  This will also have links to my FACEBOOK
and TWITTER.  I would like this to be more to let people
know about me as Designer to showcase my work, rather than
just about selling it.  A lot of my pieces are custom made for
high end/theatrical use.

DO YOU TEACH AND DEMONSTRATE?
I will be promoting many workshops this year through
RosannaGioielli Jewellery Creations.  I have also suggested
some to be run for Jewellery Maker TV, but I am still waiting
for confirmation and approval on those ... I have agreed to
write tutorials for Jewellery Maker and we are now in the
process of deciding which pieces to demonstrate - so keep
your eyes peeled ...
I also teach jewellery making skills to adults with learning
difficulties.

HAVE YOU ANY ADVICE TO PASS ON TO OTHERS?
"Do not under estimate you work and be
yourself when making jewellery!
Making jewellery is an ART and not just
the mass production of stuff to sell at silly
prices!"

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE ASPIRATIONS AND PLANS?
I want my jewellery to be recognised as bespoke and unique.  Wearing
and possessing it should be like owning a work of art.  As for the future,
my aspirations include:
        * Being recognised as a talented designer
        * Getting the book published that I am currently working on
        * Becoming more involved in teaching and running wirework
           workshops
        * Expanding my classes to a wider range of people
        * Having more of my jewellery designs published in magazines
        * Broadening my role at Jewellery Maker TV
        * Exploring the possibilities of working as a designer in other fields and
areas, such Magazines, in Schools, etc...

THANK YOU, ROSANNA! For sharing your time and beautiful designs
with us!  I have no doubt your New Year aspirations will ALL come true
in good time! Your talent and personality shines through in your gorgeous
wirework! Keep those pliers dancing!

FEATURE ARTIST:
CATHY HEERY
of INTRINSIC DESIGNS
******************************************************
Prepare to be blown away!
We are travelling all the way over to Australia for our
January 2014 Feature Artist, Cathy Heery ...
Not only an accomplished wirework jewellery designer and
maker of sublime suncatchers, but also a fabulous mosaic and
all round highly talented multi-media artist!

Here's my latest interview and catch up with Cathy ...

WHAT'S YOUR BACKGROUND?
I was born in Hornsby, New South Wales, Australia and stayed put
until I was about 11.  Then everything got crazy with the family
throughout the rest of my younger years ... I was a wild child
(got up to a lot of mischief) and stayed that way until I had my
first son at the age of 21 ... Seventeen years later, I had my second
son, who is now 17! Yes, a lifetime of single motherhood has had
its ups and downs for sure!!

I have just moved to Diamond Beach (has a nice ring to it, don't
you think?) which is in a beautiful part of the East Coast of
New South Wales.  I work full time in admininstration for a
large Frame and Truss Company, which I REALLY wish I didn't
have to do!

I spend as many hours of my weekend as I can muster, designing
and creating (it's my therapy).  I have been collecting beautiful,
quality Gemstones for years, which is my absolute favourite
pastime, buying them from all over the world.  I started out as a
Mosaic Artist with glass and mixed media and used to incorporate
gemstones and different media into my designs ... I also dabble
in Pebble Mosaics, Woodwork, Hebel Carving, Concrete Moulds,
Glass Art (too expensive to maintain!), Textile Art ... and my
latest obsession is, Encaustic Art.

My favourite pastime
is Wirework with Gemstones and I love working
in pure Bronze andCopper wire incorporated into
either jewellery or suncatchers (those stones
really sparkle in the sunlight!)

I can't seem to stick to one form of Art, as I love to
learn new techniques (isn't 'Google' a wonderful
thing!) and experiment to make it my own original
(which is pretty hard to do these days!).

DO YOU HAVE A FORMAL TRAINING?
I have never done any workshops (as much as I would have loved
to!).  I have bought many PDF tutorials online and watched a lot
of You Tube videos, scrutinsed other artists techniques and spend
many,  many hours learning the hard way ... all through trial and
error!

DO YOU WORK FROM HOME?
Yes, I have a spare room that is chock-a-block full of my
gems and wire and 'stuff' and the garage is set up for
all my other hobbies.  In there, I have every tool known
to man!

WHAT INSPIRES OUR DESIGNS?
My main inspiration comes from our wonderful Mother
Nature and there are many brilliant artists out there
that also inspire me to keep pushing my boundaries to
achieve a higher level of technique.  Unfortunately, I am
a perfectionist and a major procrastinator, which is
pretty frustrating at times!

DO YOU HAVE A FAVOURITE DESIGN/TECHNIQUE
AND WHY?
There's nothing more relaxing than doing something that
you have done before, but that isn't in my vocabulary ...
I think that my Suncatchers are my favourite, as I know
that each one is completely unique and so much fun to
create.

WHERE DO YOU SELL AND PROMOTE YOUR WORK?
I have an ETSY STORE called Intrinsic Designs for now, as there
isn't enough time to have loads of items to sell (due to work
commitments).
I also have a FACEBOOK page.

WHAT PIECES ARE YOU CURRENTLY WORKING ON?
As I have just had 3 wonderful, relaxing weeks on holiday over
the Christmas period, I have managed to make a few pairs of
earrings.  I have also spent a lot of time melting coloured
beeswax and heating it to manoeuvre it around the board ...
So unpredictable and fun!

HAVE YOU ANY ADVICE TO PASS ON ...
The only advice I can give is to challenge yourself
every day and never feel like a failure!  Keep hard
at it and most of all ENJOY creating something that
YOU would LOVE ... not what might sell, or others
might love, otherwise ... it becomes a chore!

WHAT ARE YOUR FUTURE PLANS AND ASPIRATIONS?
Well, as I've only just moved house locally, I am thinking of moving
again already ... to Warialda, New South Wales (a one horse town)
so that I can be closer to my sister and possibly, set up my own
Gallery and Workshop!  That's what I aspire to do one day ... and
hopefully, it will be sooner rather than later!

*****************************************************
THANK YOU, CATHY HEERY for showcasing
your work!  We hope that your dreams of opening
your own Gallery and Studio come double quick, as
your craftsmanship and artistry is very unique and
completely stunning!
